Virginia Union University seeks to enroll graduate students with the potential and desire to further their career and intellectual development. Each applicant is evaluated individually based on their academic performance at the undergraduate level, professional experience, and demonstrated an interest in obtaining an advanced degree.
Outlined below are the minimum admission requirements for graduate study at VUU. Additional requirements may be established by individual department/program in order to evaluate the applicant’s potential for success in graduate study in a particular field.
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or its equivalent. Applicant must have received an earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Some programs may admit graduate applicants who have equivalent of a baccalaureate degree.
Required grade point average. For admission to graduate study at VUU, our graduate programs requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.7.
Letters of recommendation. Three letters of recommendation that outline the candidate’s ability to successfully complete graduate studies. The letters must focus on the student’s academic record, work record and personal character. One letter from a former instructor is preferred.
Personal statement. Applicants must submit a 500 word personal statement to include their career goals.
Resume. Submission of a professional resume is required.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students whose first language is not English, must pass the TOEFL with a score of 550 or better.
Entrance examinations. Submission of standardized graduate-level test scores may be required by the individual program/department.
Additional requirements established by individual programs and schools. Additional requirements may include personal interviews, submission of an academic portfolio or other materials.
